Honiara youths gearing up for the International Youth Day

Since Friday last week various youth organizations and groups including the Solomon Islands Red Cross are preparing for the International Youth Day which will be celebrated on August 12, 2008 at the Cultural Center.

According to George Baragamu, SI Red Cross Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reductions officer the theme for 2008 International Youth Day will be "Youth and Climate Change: Time for action". Thus, his department is so involved in preparation since last week with Honiara City Council Youth department, Solomon Islands Youth for Change, Ministry of Youths, Children and Women Affairs and non governmental organization.

Update of tomorrow's activity the official programme will be started with a match by the youth groups from Honiara City Council office area to the Cultural Village. Speeches from some prominent figures in Climate Change and youths development and winners of the day's speech competition are expected, and will be followed by performances from Solo Idols and bands.

He said there will be free admission to the general public at the celebration venue. So every body who has nothing to do tomorrow do feel free to visit the International Youth Day celebration venue.
